About the Event

GrayMatters® Memory Screening and Alzheimer’s Symposium

Nearly 5.2 million people are affected by dementia and memory loss in the United States, and it is estimated that nearly 10 million baby boomers will be diagnosed in their lifetime.

This is why Buckner Retirement Village has partnered with Texas neuropsychologist Dr. Samuel Brinkman, Ph.D., creator of the GrayMatters Assessment System, to bring a greater awareness of memory loss symptoms and prevention to residents in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.

Dr. Brinkman will deliver a short message on updates in Alzheimer’s and dementia research from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.. He will be joined by retired psychologist Dr. Richard Taylor, Ph.D., author of the book Alzheimer’s from the Inside Out. As someone who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, Dr. Taylor is able to offer a rare glimpse into the often incomprehensible world of people living with Alzheimer’s and memory loss.

About The Test

The GrayMatters Assessment System is a simple memory screening test that has been incorporated into an easy-to-use touch screen computer system. No computer knowledge is needed to take the test.

Screening is recommended every one to two years for people in their 60s and annually for those ages 70 and older. For people who are at greater risk, with identifiable risk factors such as a parent diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, annual screening should begin earlier. Research shows that early detection and diagnosis can help delay the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and other memory problems.

Testing will be completed in 30 min. intervals, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, and all results will be stored and sent to the patient’s preferred physician, along with a letter explaining the screening which requests they share the results with your privately.

To schedule your screening, or to attend the seminar, please fill out the online registration form or call toll free 1-800-381-4551 or 214-758-8192.
