In May, Diane Williams, a nurse at Buckner Retirement Village, received the nurse of the year award for Texas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.
Williams has been a geriatric nurse for over four decades and has worked with Buckner for almost 14 years. She goes above and beyond and makes wise decisions said Alicia Russell, executive director at Buckner Retirement Village.
“I was absolutely thrilled because she is so deserving. She is a very special individual and Buckner is blessed to have her,” Russell said.
For Memorial Day, Buckner Retirement Village organized a
special surprise celebration honoring Williams and veterans. They played D-I-A-N-E bingo and had a cake walk. They also recognized Williams by adding a plaque to the Hall of Honor.
When Williams found out she received the award she thought they had the wrong person. She stood in shock as Russell made and announcement over the speaker.
“I am very honored that I was chosen. I still pinch myself to this day,” Williams said. “People ask me what I did that was special, and I tell them I have no idea.”
She believes the best part about winning the award is the benefit that Buckner receives. She desires to see her residents happy and hopes that others will want to come here as well. |
